Every program has rules. Great programs have values. Rules tell people what to do. Values tell people who to be.
At Hasek’s Heroes, we operate by five core values. These are not aspirational posters on a wall — they are expected behaviors every day, at every practice, in every interaction.
Our Five Core Values:
1. Respect Respect for teammates, opponents, coaches, parents, officials, and the game itself. Respect sounds like encouragement. It looks like shaking hands after a tough loss. It means never tearing someone else down to feel better about yourself.
2. Accountability We own our actions — the good ones and the ones we are not proud of. We do not make excuses. We do not blame referees, teammates, or circumstances. We ask what we could have done better, and we commit to doing it.
3. Effort We do not ask every player to be the best player on the ice. We ask every player to give everything they have. Maximum effort, every time, is non-negotiable. It is also completely within every player’s control.
4. Growth We are all getting better. Coaches, players, parents — we are all learning. We celebrate improvement as much as achievement. A player who improves their skating by 30% over a season has succeeded, regardless of where they started.
5. Community We are stronger together. Hasek’s Heroes is a community — built on trust, connection, and a shared belief in what sport can do for young people. We look out for each other. We include. We welcome. We support.
These values are the culture of Hasek’s Heroes. Culture is not what we say — it is what we allow, what we celebrate, and what we correct.
