Help design lawton’s goalie mask!
Hasek's Heroes Partners with Northeastern's Lawton Zacher
Buffalo, NY — Hasek's Heroes is excited to announce a special community event this summer, partnering with Northeastern University goaltender and Buffalo native Lawton Zacher for a one-of-a-kind evening that brings together art, hockey, and the next generation of Buffalo's young players.
The event takes place on Thursday, July 10th from 6:00–8:00pm at Bud Bakewell Ice Arena in Buffalo's Riverside neighborhood, and is free and open to all youth ages.
Your Kid's Art Could End Up on a Real NCAA Goalie's Mask
Here's the hook: Lawton Zacher is heading into the 2026–27 season and he needs a design for his new goalie mask — and he wants Buffalo's kids to help create it.
From 6:00 to 6:45pm, kids are invited to come meet Lawton, draw with him, and submit their original artwork for consideration. Whether they design at home beforehand or create something on-site with Lawton himself, every submission gets a real look. After the on-ice skills session wraps up, kids can continue drawing and turn in even more designs. Lawton will personally select the winning artwork to be featured on his mask during the upcoming NCAA season.
This is a genuine, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a young hockey fan or budding artist to leave their mark on college hockey.
Who Is Lawton Zacher?
If you haven't been following Northeastern University hockey this past season, now's the time to get familiar with one of college hockey's most exciting young goaltenders — and one of Buffalo's own.
Zacher, who grew up right here in Buffalo, just completed a remarkable 2025–26 campaign with the Northeastern Huskies that put him among the elite netminders in the entire country. He finished the season tied for second in the NCAA with a .929 save percentage and tied for first nationally with five shutouts among goaltenders who played 30 or more games. He ranked tenth in the nation with 922 total saves on the year.
The individual honors followed. Zacher was named a Mike Richter Award Semifinalist — one of the highest individual honors in college hockey — and earned AHCA/CCM Second Team East All-American recognition. He was also named to the Hockey East Second Team All-Star squad, earned New England Division I All-Star honors, and took home his team's Defensive MVP award. In October 2025 alone, he swept both the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month and the HCA National Goalie of the Month awards.
None of this came out of nowhere. Before transferring to Northeastern, Zacher turned heads at Brown University, where he posted a 14-11-2 record in 2024–25, earned a Mike Richter Award semifinalist nod, and attended the Nashville Predators development camp that summer. He has been on an upward trajectory every single season, and Buffalo should be incredibly proud to call him one of their own.
Now, Lawton wants to give back to the community that helped shape him. This event with Hasek's Heroes is a reflection of that commitment — a chance for him to connect directly with the kids who are just starting their own hockey journeys.
On-Ice Skills Session
Following the drawing session, Lawton will take to the ice from 7:00 to 8:00pm for a paid skills camp open to all youth players. This is a rare opportunity to train alongside a top-level NCAA goaltender and learn from one of the best in the college game.
Registration for the on-ice skills session is $25 for skaters and $39 for goalies through the Dominator Goalie Club. Spots are limited, so families are encouraged to sign up early.
